In retrospect, the JRPG giant Square Enix took a long time to find it footing in the previous generation of consoles. The output of the company that was born of the merger of the former two greatest rivals in the genre back in 2003 was extremely high, and quality games kept pouring out of the developer, especially on the PlayStation 2. At the turn of the generation, however, things slowed down considerably. The Xbox 360 came out in 2006, and the PlayStation 3 about a year later in 2007, and yet no HD JRPG would come out of Square Enix before September 2008, with the release of the Xbox 360 exclusive Infinite Undiscovery by Tri-Ace. The latter only got mixed reviews, and the next one, released only a month later, would be The Last Remnant, also an exclusive on Microsoft's console. That one, too, did not fully capture the favour of the crowds. It would only be with the eventual release, at the start of 2009, of Star Ocean: The Last Hope, initially also an Xbox 360 exclusive, that the generation of HD JRPGs on consoles felt like it had truly begun. Fast forward to January 2019, and Square Enix releases a remastered version of The Last Remnant on PS4 - and it's this same remaster that now graces the Switch, after its surprise reveal during their E3 2019 conference.
However it turns out that Irina was abducted by a group of people willing to conduct forbidden experiments on said Remnants because she possesses powers allowing her to uniquely interact with them. Those people, however, are in cahoots with very influential people, the likes of whom David also has to answer to as their vassal. The overall story has strong hints of plotting and political devices, a bit like something out of a Fire Emblem game, but also with lots of magic/science stuff thrown in for good measure with the whole Remnant affair going on. It is really slow to get going, but when it does, it is interesting enough and there's enough mystery to keep players invested... assuming that they can stick with all the different mechanics that make up the interactive part of this story-driven piece of entertainment.
[PC] The.Last.Remnant-RELOADED Game Hack
Players do not select manually what their units will do. Rather, playable characters in the party are arranged into 'Unions;' groups of units that are issued general orders from a limited list that changes based on the situation of the battle. Those orders cost AP to issue, and those AP are taken out of that union's gauge, which itself corresponds to the total of AP of every character in that union. A command to use combat arts for example, may make Rush use Knee Splitter, another guest character would use a regular attack while a third could for example another combat art of its own. However those are selections offered by the game whenever it feels like it and there are situations where it is unclear why this isn't giving an option to use mystic arts.
Short of being able to fully grasp all the ins and outs of the battle system then, or being able to control it perfectly, it is indeed a rather grindy affair overall. Sometimes the story as it advances likes to throw sudden spikes in difficulty that hit like a brick wall and tell the player "go back and grind some more," right when things got especially interesting. That takes away from the good flow of the narrative. Originally, battles felt very slow in the original. This is why this remaster has one quality of life improvement added in: Turbo Mode. This lets battles play out a lot faster which does make grinding against inferior enemy unions much more of a breeze than otherwise. Turbo Mode does make the QTEs in battle harder to react to, however, so there is an option for the game to handle them automatically. If this is activated, the CPU itself will randomly get it right. This should be reserved for grinding sessions so as to be able to watch a film on TV, or listen to music.
Moving from one area to the next is done via an overhead 2D map with little detail on it, like a much lower budget game than what it really was when it first came out. The Last Remnant, in its original XBox 360 version, ran on Unreal Engine 3. This was later ported to the PC with a few gameplay changes, but that still used the same engine. When it was brought over to PS4 however, it was ported to Unreal Engine 4, which the Switch supports already as opposed to Unreal Engine 3. On Xbox 360, this had many technical issues like bad frame rate and texture pop-in.
Whether that was the engine's fault or not, compared to the original, the resolution here is higher and texture work seems to aim for a higher resolution output as well, at least on character models. No texture pop-in issues are to be reported at all however, though ground textures in wide open areas do still appear rather flat and blurry. The art itself of the game is good. Character design in and of itself is well above average, and the different locales, if they do lack perhaps in terms of actual level of detail, are nice and clean looking. However, character models do look a bit weird in movement. Seeing them walking around or turning to one another feels very much like something out of the PS2 era. Facial expressions and lip movements, in particular, look a bit weird to the point of being distracting.
It is not a bad looking game but it moves weird overall. Furthermore, The Last Remnant Remastered uses an uncapped frame rate on Switch. The lowest it ever dips is in the high 20s while it also never really goes much higher than perhaps 35fps. It is therefore weird that a frame rate cap of 30fps was not implemented, with the game instead being thrown out onto the eShop as is. In all fairness, it never feels too jittery either, since the frame rate remains overall fairly consistent otherwise, but it shouldn't have been too hard to implement something to iron things out further. This could still be addressed via an update of course but at time of writing, a couple weeks after release, there are no signs of anything forthcoming.

When I started this game I read a few reviews written by people who basically compared The Last Remnant with Final Fantasy, since they both came from the same sofware house. Most of those comments were highly negative, criticizing the automatic battlesystem that deprives you from any kind of freedom.
Now, it is true that once you select your actions the whole combat proceeds on its own while you can just sit there and watch. BUT! What many people seemed to ignore is the strategy the game actually requires; if you pick a wrong tactic from the first selection, your parties might end up terminated in a few rounds, no matter how high your battle rank is. You of course have more chances against a weaker opponent or someone of equal strength at least, but if you activate a bad attack you will be forced to reload the game and start your fight once more.
You definitely have to be prepared because you will find 42 quests on Disc One and 26 on Disc Two, for a total of 68 side missions! Woah, you can tell why it took me months to finish this game, right? ?
The Last Remnant was released for the PC in March 2009, several months after its November 2008 launch on the Xbox 360. In that time, the developers made numerous improvements to the PC version in response to many of the criticisms leveled against the original game.
Sadly they never worked on The Last Remnant 2 and probably they never will. This game is terribly underrated and apparently the number of sales was not enough to even think about developing a second part. A pity, really, because the game has so much potential and a sequel would certainly be extremely interesting to see.
Ransomware affects all industries, from tech to healthcare, and oil and gas to higher education. Perhaps the most interesting new development has been the rise of attacks against public sector entities. Perhaps spurred by the recent legislative action in a handful of states, which bans the use of tax dollars for ransom payments, hackers have begun targeting smaller, privately-held businesses across all industries.
Some are fun to play but may have a moment or two where they struggle, others are designed with the end game in mind and limp along in the first part, and others still are broken monstrosities that turn this game into a slugfest.
This build has taken what makes the Scrapper great and expanded upon it. The Pure Scrapper focuses on strong melee and close-ranged combat to blast and hack apart enemies. Unfortunately, melee is brutal in this game, so expect a long hard battle from beginning to end.
This one is ludicrously fun and actually viable for the endgame. The Akari Armor is worn for the damage boost when successfully dodging. Beam Rifle with Hot Shot to initiate burn and soften up the enemy. Melee weapons are World Breaker for group clearing and Riven for life-stealing on bosses.
This is by far the strongest build in the game so far. The idea is to max out the sniper rifle, so give it a Hot Shot Augment. Your secondary and melee will not matter. Your rings are important, get Heartseeker to give you a 100% chance to get a critical when shooting an enemy unaware, and bring Devouring Loop to raise your damage by 300% when you get a critical. Traits are Executioner and Kingslayer to raise your critical chance and damage and Shadow Walker to avoid detection.
Attack boost
After reaching Undelwalt and going to the seventh path through the sixth, defeat the Idols in the Dark Forest. Go the union and get the reward for defeating Idols (Comet formation). Use that formation with your best leaders. This can result in your leaders doing 15,000 to 54,000 damage each combat or Mystic Art, and 60,000 to 240,000 for Weapon Arts.Completion bonus
Successfully complete the game. You can start a new session with a cleared saved game with your previously earned components, formations, gold, magazines, maps, items that unlock arts for Rush; and Mr. Digg's status.Dragon's Liver
Go to the Great Sand Sea. In the Searing Cove, there will be a Spiritlord and Manticore (Nass). In the Searing Cauldron there will be just Manticore again, and you will find the dragon between the first and second spike northeast from the direction you entered. Save the game first, fight, and split him. If you do not get the liver, reload the game and repeat.Easy experience
Note: This takes a while and is very repetitive. This trick is done before you enter Dillmoor. It can be opened up during the story line, which is the third area opened, but do not enter it or you will lose this chance. At the beginning of the game when the Ruins of Robelia Castle and Gaslin Caves are opened up, or as Dillmoor is opened up, there is a way to keep leveling up for a long period of time before moving on. You can do it all three ways actually. When choosing to enter either Robelia Castle or Gaslin Caves you will be grouped with Pagus or Blockter. Keep going back into that area and fight until you can make it through the area without leveling up once through the whole map and use the appropriate fighting technique (Mystic Attacks in Robelia Castle or Combat Arts in Gaslin Caves). As you do this, your characters will learn more of those skills. If you chose to wait until Dillmoor is opened, do not enter that area or you will lose the leveling ability. Instead, have your two parties run in and out of both Robelia Castle and Gaslin Caves until you do not level up at all running through both areas. Even if you are close to exiting the second area you selected and have one character level up, go through them both again. This is the easiest and most efficient way to level up early in the game, and it keeps your characters leveling up for a very long time. Note that you cannot do the time warp. If you go into Dillmoor you will lose the chance for this leveling up trick. This also gives you the chance to get and sell a lot of your components and gather the rare ones, like the bracelet. Remember that Chimera components are difficult to find; do not sell them. This trick also gives you the chance to get the money together to afford two of every item in Athlum and to save to get two of every item in Celepaleis. Remember to buy the Flamberg for 7,500. Equip it and keep using it until you can unlock its secret attack. This will take some time. You will have another way to make money and the seldom level up after entering Dillmoor. Visit each area at least 150 times. This will also unlock the special monsters that are in each area, such as the special Landworm in the high chambers of Robelia Castle (before you open up the upper area with Emma), and the flying dragon or land dragon in Dillmoor, and the land dragon and twp other special monsters to fight in Gaslin Caves. This will work better if you have an accessory with an addition to Occurrences. These monsters will not show up until you go through Dillmoor, Baulson's Quest, and Celepaleis.Easy money
Go to Nagapur. Talk to the person upstairs and accept the "Cosmo Maiden" quest. Go to Crookfen and find the maiden. Fight the dragon (Bai ze) in the middle of map. Capture but do not complete the quest. Exit at the bottom of map at the southeast corner. Guest union will leave. Go back to Nagapur and talk to the same person. Choose the "Sure see you in a bit" option and repeat the quest until you have the desired amount of money. Bai ze sells for 28,800 gold.Gain stats quickly
Avoid unnecessary battles with low level enemies. You'll know this when your allied morale (blue) is greater than the enemy's. To raise your party's stats almost EVERY BATTLE, deliberately start the battle with the enemy's morale greater than yours; technically speaking... allow enemies to ambush you and get the first strike. Do this one enemy at a time to avoid to much problem. It will take a while and you won't get that much components but this is guaranteed to boost your party's stats immensely without speeding up the increase of your Battle Rank (higher BR = difficulty against enemies)Halting a pursuing monster
When running from a monster because your timeshift gauge is still recharging or if you just want to avoid battles, you can halt them temporarily by examining any point of interest - like dig points, chests or signs/machines. You can use this short span of time to escape completely.Recommended dual wield weapons
Use the following weapon combinations when dual wielding.Axes Shielding and Enchanted Hawkwind (start with Tomahawks level to +3)Katana's Parrying and Aura Tataraichi (start with Katana level to +3)Recommended leaders
Use the following leaders: Rush++, David with Frostblade++, Jager+, Emmy, Adv Jorgen, Nora, Khrynia, Pagus, Oakes, Torgal+, Wyngale++, Caedmon, Blocter++, Gaou+, Duke of Ghor, and Baulson.Ring of the Labyrinth Guild
The Ring of the Labyrinth is an optional guild that can only be unlocked by completing Emmy's "The Fated One"sidequest in Athlum. They offer similar tasks but the set of items, monsters and weapons they seek are different from Golden Chalice and Sword of the Three Realms's.Secret Achievements
